WE ENERGIES UNDERGROUND SERVICE UPGRADE
WE Energies is looking to bury their electrical lines and eliminate the overhead service wires. They are offering customers the option to bury the lines to their house for free. The reason for this is to eliminate as much potential for outages as possible. By going underground they are eliminating the risk of trees, branches, or any other obstructions falling on their overhead line.
This gives you as the homeowner the opportunity to upgrade your service to a 200 amp electrical panel. 200 amp services could increase home value and give you the ability to expand your electrical demands such as electric vehicle charging, HVAC systems, appliances, and more. You as the homeowner do not have to upgrade your panel to a 200 amp. You can leave the panel the way it is now or simply replace the existing panel with a new panel.
If you choose to allow WE Energies to go ahead with the underground service a local electrician-Prime Power is needed to install a meter pedestal and grounding system as this is not included in WE Energies services.
The Process:

Contact Prime Power for a free estimate (takes about 10-15 minutes)

Sign the easement form from WE Energies

Fill out the electrical service paperwork WE Energies emails to you

Prime Power will come to install the meter pedestal, ground rods, bond the homes main water line, and run new cable from the pedestal into the electrical panel

The city inspector will then come to inspect the work performed and contact WE Energies to let them know the inspection passed

WE Energies will come and direct bore underground to the meter pedestal with their new underground wire

WE Energies project manager will contact Prime Power to set up a day to do the switchover from overhead to underground

On the day of the switchover, power will be cut from the house and the overhead lines will be dropped. The new wire inside the home will be hooked up to the panel and WE Energies will hook the wires up inside the pedestal. The install is then complete!
